Learn to Advocate not Delegate.
Stage Fright is a useful Tool for the new & developing Speaker. Stage Fright by any other name: fear, Stress, embarrassment, sweaty palms, or “nerves”, is a very common issue for Performers. And as a Speaker or Presenter you are also a Performer. And frequently you can find yourself having to deal with those same annoying issues. So, whether you’re Speaking, Presenting, Acting, Singing or Dancing, “Performance Anxiety” can affect you too. Actually, it affects most people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time. OK, but what can you do about it, you ask? Well,
In this video you’ll learn how you can control or eliminate Stage Fright. Instead of stress controlling you and eliminating you from many great opportunities, let’s learn to overcome it.
You’ll also discover that some Stage Fright is a Useful Tool. In fact many performers recognize the feelings and have learned to work better with them. Some others actually look forward to the feelings. Interesting?
Since I first made this video and wrote this blog entry, my experience teaching both in the US & Japan has broadened my understanding of this issue. I believe that the commonly used phrase Fear of Speaking, is medically mis-identified as a Phobia. “Glossophobia” certainly doesn’t affect the 60-70% of Americans that claim they suffer with the “Fear of Speaking”. So, we really should drop the connection and look at Fear of Speaking as the result of other issues.
Frankly, the phrase “Fear of Speaking” is over-hyped in books, websites, CD’s, & DVD’s. It is a poisonous phrase that’s commonly used by many people to avoid participating in public discussions of any type. Events offer you, one person, an opportunity to Advocate a Solution that can impact your entire Community. Why not be able to participate?
You can Advocate instead of Delegating your Solution to someone else who might get it wrong, or miss a critical Point…. well that’s exactly what this website will continue to address with information, education, & training. Read on, watch the videos, and join the ranks of people advocating a better future. Why not You?
Make a Friend of Fear, learn a few Skills,
embrace every opportunity to Advocate.
